Kentucky Yearlings Final Average Down 10.2%
In the US, Kentucky's 15-session Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington concluded with 3,605 lots sold for a cumulative US$327,999,100 (down 14.8% on last year's 3,799 sold for US$385,018,600). The final cumulative median of US$90,984 was down 10.2% (last year US$101,347) & the final cumulative median of US$37,000 was down 11.9% (last year US$42,000). However officials noted that, amid "national economic difficulty" Keeneland still concluded its 4th-highest grossing September Yearling Sale ever. Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell summed up: "To have the 4th-largest gross in September Sale history is a testament to the drawing power of this sale. There was a diverse group of buyers, both foreign & domestic, in attendance throughout the 2 weeks. We saw especially strong representation from countries whose economies are doing well & whose business we have actively cultivated, such as the Russian republics, Latin America & Scandinavia. We are very pleased that the sale was steady & solid: a reflection of our consignors' ability to adapt to this market."
