Monday, 15th September 2008

Coolmore stallion & now permanently Australian-based Royal Academy (Nijinsky-Crimson Saint, by Crimson Satan) added a US black-type success when 5YO mare Royal Pleasure (Royal Academy-Pleasure Center, by Diesis) scored by a head in the US$100,000 Listed Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Kentucky Downs. Royal Pleasure (ridden by Rosemary Homeister for trainer Jonathan Sheppard) defeated 4YO mare Katerbug (Pulpit-Miss Kate, by Storm Cat) & fellow 5YO mare Meribel (Peaks And Valleys-Count To Six, by Saratoga Six). Last month Royal Pleasure also won the US Listed Mrs Penny Stakes (8.5 furlongs on turf) at Philadelphia Park. Previously in 2007 she finished runner-up in the same Listed Mrs Penny Stakes (8.5 furlongs on turf) at Philadelphia Park, as well as winning the Listed Betty's Hat Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) at Penn National; & in 2006 she finished runner-up in the Listed Ghost And Goblin Stakes (8 furlongs) at Delaware Park.
