Monday, 15th September 2008

Also in the UK, Juddmonte home-bred 3YO filly African Rose (Observatory-New Orchid, by Quest For Fame) scored by a neck against older rivals in the £165,000 (A$347,000) Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup (6 furlongs) rescheduled (due to last week's washout at Haydock Park) at Doncaster. African Rose (ridden by Stephane Pasquier for trainer Criquette Head-Maarek) defeated 5YO entire Assertive (Bold Edge-Tart And A Half, by Distant Relative) & 4YO gelding Utmost Respect (Danetime-Utmost, by Most Welcome). Previously this season, African Rose won May's French Listed Prix Du Pont-Neuf (1400m) at Longchamp & finished 2nd in August's French Gr1 Maurice De Gheest (1300m) against older rivals at Deauville. Last year as a juvenile she finished 3rd in both France's Gr3 Prix D'Aumale (1600m) at Chantilly & Gr3 Prix Des Reservoirs (1600m) at Deauville, as well as runner-up in France's Listed Prix Yacowlef (1000m) at Deauville. Overall African Rose now has 3 wins & 5 placings from 9 starts for £195,883 (A$411,000) earnings.
