Waterhouse Takes Racing NSW To Court

In the NSW Supreme Court, Justice George Palmer yesterday reserved his decision in a legal challenge by bookmaker Tom Waterhouse to Racing NSW's new power (from September 1) to charge up to 1.5% of turnover (for use of "race fields") from bookmakers & totalisator agencies betting on NSW races. Waterhouse argued taking bets over the telephone does not constitute publication of race fields & therefore should not be subject to the turnover tax.
