US$9.7m Jalil Makes American Debut

Friday, 29th August 2008

In the US, Godolphin's US$9.7 million colt Jalil (Storm Cat-Tranquility Lake, by Rahy) will make his American debut tomorrow at Suffolk Downs in the Waquoit Stakes (8.5 furlongs). The now 4YO entire was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale & Rick Mettee (American assistant to trainer Saeed bin Suroor) told thoroughbredtimes.com: "We want to see where he fits in this country & the Waquoit is a good starting point. He's fit & ready to run. The timing, the distance & the surface all make sense." Jalil comes to the US from a successful campaign in the United Arab Emirates, where he won 3 of his 4 starts (including a victory in the Gr2 Sakhee al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 on March 6 prior to finishing 7th to US Horse-Of-The-Year Curlin in the Gr1 Dubai World Cup on March 29 at Nad al Sheba).
