Crime Commission Investigating Qld Racing Votes

Monday, 25th August 2008

In Australia, Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser confirmed the state's Crime & Misconduct Commission will investigate vote rigging allegations involving Queensland Racing. Fraser revealed he had received a written demand from retired Supreme Court judge Bill Carter into allegations that Queensland Racing chairman Bob Bentley & Queensland Country Racing Committee chairman Bill Ludwig exercised proxy votes without the permission of 2 racing industry groups at a QR meeting earlier this month. That vote approved a change to the QR constitution to potentially allow directors to remain in office until 2018. Bentley immediately told the media the CMC investigation "will prove the whole thing is a charade. We did absolutely nothing wrong. The allegations will be proven entirely false."
