Colonel John Wins US Gr1 Travers Stakes

In the US, WinStar Farm's home-bred colt Colonel John (Tiznow-Sweet Damsel, by Turkoman) snatched victory by a nose in the final strides of the US$1 million Gr1 Travers Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YOs at Saratoga in New York. Colonel John (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Eoin Harty) defeated fellow colts Mambo In Seattle (Kingmambo-Weekend In Seattle, by Seattle Slew) & Gr2-winning Pyro (Pulpit-Wild Vision, by Wild Again). Previously this season, Colonel John won both March's Gr3 Sham Stakes (9 furlongs on the all-weather) at Santa Anita & then April's Gr1 Santa Anita Derby (9 furlongs on the all-weather track) at Santa Anita; overall he now has 5 wins (also including 2007's Listed Real Quiet Stakes over 8.5 furlongs on all-weather at Hollywood Park, plus placings in July's Gr2 Swaps Stakes over 9 furlongs on all-weather at Hollywood Park & 2007's Gr1 Hollywood Futurity over 8.5 furlongs on all-weather at Hollywood Park) from 9 starts for US$1,468,830 earnings.
