Bushranger Wins French Gr1 Prix Morny

Monday, 25th August 2008

In France overnight, ill-fated former Western Australia-based Alwyn Park Stud shuttler Danetime (Danehill-Allegheny River, by Lear Fan) added a juvenile Gr1 triumph when his Irish-bred colt Bushranger (Danetime-Danz Danz, by Efisio) scored a half-length victory in the €350,000 (A$595,000) Gr1 Darley Prix Morny (1200m) for 2YOs at Deauville. Favourite Bushranger (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer David Wachman) defeated UK-bred colt Gallagher (Bahamian Bounty-Roo, by Rudimentary) & US-bred colt Lord Shanakill (Speightstown-Green Room, by Theatrical). Bushranger was sold for €15,000 (A$26,000) as a foal at Goffs; previously this season he finished runner-up in June's UK Listed Windsor Castle Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot, then won July's Irish Gr3 Anglesey Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh & finished 3rd last start in Ireland's Gr1 Phoenix Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh on July 27. Overall Bushranger now has 3 wins & 2 placings from 5 starts.
