No Wine No Song Out Of Caulfield-Melb Cups

Friday, 22nd August 2008

This year's Gr1 Sydney Cup winner No Wine No Song (Song Of Tara-Deep Time, by Kinjite) "is no longer a contender for the Caulfield & Melbourne Cups," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Veterinarians at the Randwick Equine Centre are treating the 7YO gelding for a "displaced bowel" & trainer Kevin Moses's wife Jenny told the newspaper the sudden development on Monday was "the worst day of my life" noting: "We love him to death. Kevin couldn't even speak." No Wine No Song underwent surgery on Tuesday & Moses (who was present during the operation) hopes his star will return to the track "in the later part of the spring". No Wine No Song confirmed his credentials among Australia's top stayers with victory in May's Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick to take his record to 9 wins (also including April's Gr2 Chairman's Handicap over 2600m at Randwick & March's Gr3 Randwick City Stakes over 2000m, plus 2007's Gr2 Chairman's Handicap over 2400m at Randwick) & 9 placings (including April's Listed Manion Cup over 2400m at Rosehill, plus 2007's Gr1 Sydney Cup over 3200m at Randwick & Listed Sky High Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill) from 45 starts for $1,051,940 earnings.
