Wednesday, 20th August 2008

In South America, 5YO entire Flag Copado (Flag Down-Potra Bruja, by Potrillon) "solidified his credentials as one of Argentina's top stayers on dirt with a record-setting victory in the Gr1 Gran Premio General San Martin (1800m) at Palermo" in Buenos Aires, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Flag Copado (ridden by Gustavo Calvente for trainer Roberto Pellegata) scored by 2.5-lengths from front-running Gr1-winner Bahiaro (Incurable Optimist-Istiara, by Interprete) & Two Parades in 1min 45.34sec (to eclipse the previous record 1min 45.89sec set by Le Pont Neuf in April 2000). At his previous start, Flag Copado blitzed his rivals by 9-lengths in the Gr1 Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (Argentina's version of the US Breeders' Cup Classic) over 2000m on turf at Palermo on June 28. And during 2007 Flag Copado won the Listed Clasico Cocles (2200m) at San Isidro & finished runner-up in the Gr2 Clasico Peru (1800m) at Palermo. Overall Flag Copado now has 6 wins from 9 starts.
