BTC Members Vote To Merge With QTC

Monday, 11th August 2008

Brisbane Turf Club members voted (by a majority over 81%) to approve a "merger of equals" with the Queensland Turf Club & form a single Brisbane metropolitan race club to be known as the Brisbane Racing Club. QTC chairman Bill Sexton commented: "The merger will deliver a more profitable, sustainable & strategic direction for racing in Brisbane. A major benefit of the merger will be that instead of competing against each other, the focus will be more strongly on competition from other forms of entertainment. Over the past few months the 2 Boards have been working closely together, especially in the master planning for Eagle Farm & Doomben Racecourses. The merger will now allow us to really get cracking on the planning for improvements to both racecourses. We still require some formalities & procedural issues to be finalised, but hope the new Club can be up-and-running by 1 July 2009." QTC members previously approved the merger back in August 2007.
