OBSC Cuts Aug Florida Yearlings To 4 Days
Meanwhile an "11% drop in horses has led the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co to decrease the 2008 OBSC August Yearling Sale from 5 days to 4," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The sale (scheduled for August 18-21) was a 5-day sale in each of the last 3 years (2005-2007) but OBSC has cataloged 1,342 yearlings this year, compared with 1,508 last year. OBSC director of sales Tom Ventura commented: "I don't exactly know why, but it seemed we were about 10% less at the 2YO sales this year as well. The preferred numbers are down by 18 horses (the opening-day Select Session has decreased from 248 horses last year to 230 this year), but there was a bigger drop in the open horses, so maybe it's a cutting back slightly on the bottom end of the market."
