Japan Yearlings: Patinack Buys 5 For US$1.2m

Tuesday, 15th July 2008

Australian buyer Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm spent US$1.207 million on 5 yearlings (a colt & 4 fillies) during yesterday's opening session at the JRHA Sale. He told bloodhorse.com that he has "international aspirations" with the 2nd top-priced yearling in the sale, a bay Agnes Tachyon colt (out of Gr1 Yushun Himba-Japanese Oaks winning Brian's Time mare Silk Prima Donna) which he "hopes to race in Japan & Europe. He's by an outstanding stallion in Agnes Tachyon & he'd be an attractive stallion prospect in Australia if he can prove himself racing. We'd like to make a shuttle stallion out of him & our other colts that are good enough." Tinkler summed up: "I'm basically here with the hope that Japanese racing will open up to foreign owners & I'd like to establish a Northern Hemisphere base here. We're looking for a select group of horses to build our brand." Tinkler added he has "major races around the world" as his "lifetime goals," including France's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe & the Gr1 Japan Cup. Tinkler's 5 buys yesterday were:

  • ¥64 million (US$598,000) Agnes Tachyon-Silk Prima Donna colt
  • ¥23 million (US$214,000) Alkaased-Velvet Queen filly
  • ¥20 million (US$186,000) Shamardal-Autumn Melody filly
  • ¥13 million (US$121,000) Symboli Kris S-Suzuka Colors filly
  • ¥9.5 million (US$88,000) Stravinsky-Washington City filly
