Apache 5-Gr1s-In-A-Row Equals Tulloch Record

Monday, 26th May 2008

Apache Cat's 5th successive Gr1 victory equalled the sequence set by Tulloch over 50 years ago, when he won the Rosehill Guineas, AJC Derby, Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Cup & Victoria Derby as a 3YO in 1957. Since then only Kingston Town, Northerly, Octagonal, Sunline & this season Weekend Hussler have won 4 successive Gr1 events. The all-time Australian record remains with Bernborough, who won the equivalent of 7 Gr1 races in succession in 1946. Trainer Greg Eurrell confirmed the plan is now to spell Apache Cat in Queensland for 6 weeks, before preparing for 2 races in Melbourne in the Spring (including the Gr1 Age Classic down the straight 1200m at Flemington) & then a trip to Hong Kong for December's Gr1 International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin. From there a trip to Europe for the Royal Ascot sprints in 2009 is also under consideration.
