El Presidente Wins Gr1 Railway Stakes

Monday, 26th November 2007

Hot favourite 4YO gelding El Presidente (Dante's Fury-Cottage Rose by Cheraw) swamped his opposition halfway down the straight to score in the $1 million Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in Perth. Ridden by Troy Turner for trainer Bruce Watkins in his first 1600m start, El Presidente made it 4 wins from 4 starts at Ascot in defeating rank outsider 7YO entire Hartley's Dream (Bletchley Park-Prohurst by Protos) by 1 length, with another long neck to fellow 4YO gelding Mansion House (Blackfriars-Princess Kariette by Aurealis). The Gr1 win took El Presidente's record to 9 wins (including the $125,000 Gr3 R.J.Peters Stakes (1500m) at Ascot & the Gr3 Asian Beau Stakes over 1400m at Ascot) and 2 placings from 11 starts for $921,365 earnings. He has started favourite in every one of his races. (Click on the link for full race details from Group Race Results at AAP Racing.)
