Grand Lodge Adds US Gr3

Tuesday, 13th November 2007

On the US track, ill-fated former Woodlands Stud shuttler Grand Lodge (Chief's Crown-La Papagena, by Habitat) added a group success when 3YO filly Dalvina (Grand Lodge-Foodbroker Fancy, by Halling) "swept into contention leaving the final turn & closed with a rush to complete a last-to-first rally" & score a 3.5-lengths victory over her older rivals in the US$150,000 Gr3 Long Island Handicap (12 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Aqueduct in New York, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Making her North American debut, UK-bred Dalvina (ridden by Cornelio Velasquez for trainer Ed Dunlop) defeated Gr1-placed stakes-winner Barancella (Acatenango-Baranciaga, by Bering) & My Rachel (Horse Chestnut-Preserver, by Forty Niner). Previously this season Dalvina won the UK Listed Pretty Polly Stakes (10 furlongs) at Newmarket in May & then finished 3rd in both the UK Gr2 Ribblesdale Stakes (12 furlongs) at Royal Ascot in June & Ireland's Gr2 Blandford Stakes at The Curragh in September. Overall Dalvina now has 3 wins & 2 placings from 7 starts for US$192,381 earnings.
