Monday, 12th November 2007

WA-based Wayandah Stud sire Ihtarim (Royal Academy-Welsh Love, by Ela-Mana-Mou) added a Gr1 triumph when multiple Gr1-winning 6YO mare Miss Andretti (Ihtiram-Peggie's Bid, by Marooned) scored a 0.75-length victory in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 The Age Classic (1200m) at Flemington. Favourite Miss Andretti (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Lee Freedman) defeated front-running Gr1-winning 4YO mare Gold Edition (Lion Hunter-Glimmers, by Success Express) & 5YO gelding Stanzout (Gallo Di Ferro-Stanza Grey, by Mentat Duke). At her previous start Miss Andretti won the Gr2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 27 at her 1st start since returning from a mid-year trip to England, where she smashed the course record by an amazing 2.35 seconds in winning the UK Gr2 King's Stand Stakes over 5 furlongs at Royal Ascot in June. Overall Miss Andretti now has 19 wins (also including February's Gr1 Coolmore Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Moonee Valley in course record time & Gr1 Australia Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, plus March's Gr1 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m at Caulfield in course record time, as well as 2006's Gr1 Manikato Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley in course record time, Gr2 Schillaci Stakes, Gr3 McEwen Stakes & Listed The Straight Six, following 2005's Gr2 Winterbottom Stakes, Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes & Listed Ruabon Stakes) & 5 placings (including 2006's Gr1 Salinger Stakes over 1200m & Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m, plus 2005's Listed Crawford Stakes) from 28 starts for $2.836,991 earnings. Miss Andretti is now being aimed at December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin. (Click on the link for full race details from Group Race Results at AAP Racing).
