Godolphin Pays US$33m For Japan Star Admire Moon

Thursday, 26th July 2007

Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin organisation has purchased dual Gr1-winning Japanese 4YO entire Admire Moon (End Sweep-My Katies, by Sunday Silence) from high-profile owner Riichi Kondo "for a massive ¥4 billion (US$33m)" reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Northern Farm-bred Admire Moon (whose ill-fated sire End Sweep shuttled to Australia's Arrowfield Stud) defeated a star-studded field to win last month's Gr1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Hanshin (ahead of last season's dual Classic-winner Meisho Samson & last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Pop Rock); & earlier this season Admire Moon won both the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1777m on turf) at Nad Al Sheba in March & Japan's Gr2 Kyoto Kinen (2200m) at Kyoto, before finishing 3rd in April's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin in Hong Kong. Previously Admire Moon also won 2006's Gr2 Yayoi Sho (2000m) at Nakayama & Gr3 Kyodo News Service Hai (1800m) at Tokyo, as well as notching Gr1-placings in both 2006's Gr1 Tenno Sho-Autumn (2000m) at Tokyo & December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin. Kondo paid ¥16 million (US$129,000) for Admire Moon at the 2003 JRHA Select Sale & overall he now boasts 9 wins from 15 starts for ¥933.95 million (US$7.562m) earnings. Kondo also attracted headlines earlier this month when he paid new record prices at the Japan Racing Horse Association's Select Sale for both the yearling & foal half-brothers to Admire Moon.
