Verglas Adds French Gr3

In France overnight, former WA-based Alwyn Park Stud shuttler Verglas (Highest Honor-Rahaam, by Secreto) added a group success when 4YO entire Stormy River (Verglas-Miss Bio, by River Mist) swept down the outsider to score a 1.5-lengths victory in the €80,000 (A$128,000) Gr3 Prix Messidor (1600m) at Deauville. Stormy River (ridden by Thierry Thuillez for trainer Nicolas Clement) defeated 5YO entire Satri (Mujadil-Laramie, by Gulch) & fellow 4YO entire Multiplex (Danehill-Shirley Valentine, by Shirley Heights). Earlier this season Stormy River finished 3rd in France's Gr1 Prix d'Ispahan (1850m) at Longchamp in May. Last year he won France's Gr1 Prix Jean Prat (1600m) at Chantilly, Gr3 Prix de Fontainbleau (1600m) at Longchamp & Listed Prix Djebel (1400m) at Maisons-Laffitte, as well as finishing runner-up in both France's Gr1 Prix Du Moulin (1600m) at Longchamp & the UK Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot, plus 3rd in France's Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains-2000 Guineas (1600m) at Longchamp; & in 2005 he finished runner-up in France's Gr1 Criterium International (1600m) at Saint-Cloud. Stormy River was a €60,000 (A$96,000) yearling at the L'Agence Francaise October Sale.
