Gr1 Star Gee I Jane Heads To Rock Of Gibraltar
Dual NZ Gr1-winning 6YO mare Gee I Jane (Jahafil-Miss Distinction, by Bletchencore) will be retired after contesting today's $125,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton in NSW & "have her next appointment with Coolmore shuttle sire Rock Of Gibraltar", reported nzracingnews.co.nz. Hastings-based breeder-owner Kieran McCarthy confirmed: "I was going to retire her after she ran last time (5th in the Glasshouse Handicap over 1400m at Caloundra), but Neville (trainer Neville Couchman) talked me into giving her this 1 more start. The number one priority has been to get her through her racing career in one piece. She's had a few problems over there in Queensland this time - like a viral infection - but Nev is really happy with her now. It would be great if she could wind up with a win. Whatever happens she'll be retired after this one. She's done enough & now I want to breed from her." Gee I Jane (NZ's Champion Sprinter for 2005-06) currently boasts 6 wins (including 2006's NZ Gr1 Railway Handicap over 1200m at Ellerslie & Australia's Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben) & 11 placings (including this year's NZ Gr1 Railway Handicap over 1200m at Ellerslie in January & NZ Gr3 Darley Plate over 1200m at Ellerslie in March) from 34 starts for $801,225 earnings.
