2007 Crown Oaks Upped To $1 Million

Tuesday, 3rd July 2007

Also yesterday afternoon, Victoria Racing Club's chief executive officer Dale Monteith announced that the 2007 Crown Oaks "will be Flemington's newest $1 million dollar race". This follows a decision by the VRC Board to allocate an additional $250,000 in prizemoney for the race, and Monteith observed: "As the flagship race on the third day of the 2007 Melbourne Cup Carnival, the time-honoured Crown Oaks is most deserving of million dollar race status, and the VRC Directors have agreed to allocate this sum to the event, within Club prizemoney budgets for the 2007/08 racing season. Some of the great fillies of the turf have won the Crown Oaks over the years, and the attention of breeders, owners and trainers will be even more focused on this staying classic in the years ahead." The 2006 Crown Oaks was won by last season's Champion 2YO Miss Finland (Redoute's Choice-Forest Pearl, by Woodman) in front of 104,131 fans at Flemington.
