Newton's Rings Wins Pacesetter Handicap

On the track, former Coolmore & Yarraman Park shuttler Spectrum (Rainbow Quest-River Dancer, by Irish River) added a black-type success when top-weighted 6YO gelding Newton's Rings (Spectrum-Primas, by Luskin Star) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in yesterday's $100,000 Listed Pacesetter Handicap (1200m) on a heavy track at Gosford in NSW. Newton's Rings (ridden by Emma Telfer for trainer Jeff Englebrecht) defeated 3YO filly Hairy (Fuji Kiseki-Final Waltz, by Danehill) & 7YO gelding Sir Covet (Covetous-Silent Dawn, by Best Western). Newton's Rings (passed-in for $6,000 as a yearling at the 2002 Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney) took his record to 17 wins (from 1000-1600m) & 14 placings (including both 2006's Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1550m at Randwick & Gr2 Shannon Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill ) from 46 starts for $542,100 earnings.
