Thursday, 21st June 2007

Dual stakes-winning 5YO Kiwi gelding Ring Of Fire (Anziyan-Setchell, by Westminster) "broke his shoulder when doing quiet pace-work" at Eagle Farm in Brisbane yesterday & had to be euthanased, reported nzracingnews.co.nz. Ring Of Fire (bred & co-owned by Ruakaka trainers Dean & Donna Logan) won 2006's Gr3 Tattersall's Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm & Listed NZB St Leger (2500m) at Trentham. Dean Logan confirmed: "He was just going along quietly in his pace-work when it happened. There was no warning. The shoulder just shattered. He was getting ready for the Caloundra Cup & he was just coming right. On Saturday it will be a year ago that he won the Tattersall's Cup here for us." Overall Ring Of Fire notched 7 wins & 5 placings from 24 starts; he earned NZ$112,935 in New Zealand & a further A$115,000 from his 6 Australian appearances.
