Gr1-winning US Sire Waquoit Euthanased Aged 24
In Maryland, multiple Gr1-winning 24-year-old sire Waquoit (Relaunch-Grey Parlo, by Grey Dawn II) was euthanased at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City "due to the infirmities of old age" reported thoroughbredtimes.com. In 16 crops of racing age, Waquoit (who stood for US$5,000 in 2007) sired 348 winners (30 stakes-winners, including Gr1-winner & US$1.4 million-earner Halo America) from 445 starters who have earned US$25,319,706. Kentucky-bred Waquoit was a US$15,000 yearling at the 1984 Keeneland September sale. On the track he won 13 stakes (including the 1987 & 1988 renewals of the Gr1 Brooklyn Handicap plus the 1988 Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes by 15-lengths) from 30 starts & earned US$2,225,360.
