Stravinsky Adds US Gr2

Monday, 30th April 2007

On the US track, NZ Cambridge Stud's Coolmore shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) added a group success when 5YO Chinese Dragon (Stravinsky-Fabulous Fairy, by Alydar) returned from over a year's lay-off to finish powerfully from the rear of the field & snatch victory by a nose in the US$300,000 Gr2 San Francisco Mile Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) at Golden Gate Fields. Chinese Dragon (ridden by Mike Smith for trainer Bob Hess) defeated German-bred Vega's Lord (Lord Of Men-Vega Sicilia, by Environment Friend) & French-bred Charmo (Charnwood Forest-Marie De Ken, by Kendor) who won this race last year. Chinese Dragon took his record to 7 wins (also including the 2005 Sir Beaufort Stakes at Santa Anita) & 3 placings (including early 2006's final appearances in the Gr1 Frank Kilroe Mile & Gr2 Arcadia Handicap) from 12 starts for US$513,492 earnings.
