Wattle Brae Announces New 2007 Stallion

Thursday, 26th April 2007

Queensland's Wattle Brae Stud has secured Redoute's Choice's Group-winning son Get Square (Redoute's Choice-Let's Get Even, by Thunder Gulch) for his stud debut this season. Purchased in a deal brokered by Magic Millions Bloodstock, he was originally a $500,000 yearling at the 2005 Inglis Easter Sale where he was bought by leading international bloodstock agent Grant Pritchard-Gordon's Badger Bloodstock. Get Square only raced 7 times in a short career that yielded victory in the Gr3 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield (2000m) & also at Randwick over 1400m when a 10/9 favourite. Stakes-placed when narrowly beaten in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1800m) at Randwick, Get Square was a luckless 5th when checked in the Gr1 VRC Derby at Flemington in his final start. Thereafter Starcraft's owner Paul Makin purchased the colt for an overseas campaign, however injury forced a premature retirement. Wattle Brae Stud's Gary Turkington said he was delighted to secure such a well performed and beautifully conformed son of Redoute's Choice, noting: "Get Square will appeal to breeders in Queensland and across the country. He has all of the attributes of a great stallion prospect." Get Square's dam is a half-sister to Gr1-performed Immerse who is the dam of US Gr1 winner Stephen Got Even, now a highly regarded sire in the Northern Hemisphere. Get Square will stand for the GST inclusive fee of $6,600, alongside fellow Wattle Brae Stud stallions Brave Hawk (Brave Warrior), Easy Rocking (Barathea), Taimazov (Southern Halo) and War Trace (Storm Cat).
