Inglis Easter Day 2: $3 Million Rock Of Gibraltar-L'On Vite Colt

Thursday, 12th April 2007

A colt by Coolmore Stud's Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill-Offshore Boom, by Be My Guest), now the sire of 4 individual stakes-winners from his 1st crop, was knocked down to trainer Gai Waterhouse for a record-equalling $3 million. Lot 270, out of the Secretariat mare L'On Vite, had been tipped to bring somewhere in that region before the sale started. As a three-quarter brother to dual Gr1-winning European colt Holy Roman Emperor (who will make his southern hemisphere stud debut later this year at Coolmore), and being out of a daughter of Fanfreluche, his international pedigree is priceless. Winning bidder Gai Waterhouse commented after the sale: "This colt has such an incredible presence and has 'stallion' written all over him. Being a grandson of Danehill and by Rock of Gibraltar who is the best first crop sire in the southern hemisphere, I look forward to him joining my team. After all, Rock of Gibraltar had the favourite for the Golden Slipper (Murtajill) and he quinellaed today's Keith Mackay at Randwick."
