Soviet Lad Dies At Tasmanian Stud

Friday, 23rd February 2007

Imported 22-year-old sire Soviet Lad (Nureyev-Green Valley, by Val de Loir) died of a heart attack at Westbury-based Park Crest Stud in Tasmania. On the track, Soviet Lad (a 3/4 brother to champion sire Green Dancer) was a French stakes-winner & US Gr1-placed. He subsequently stood at Ireland's Rathbarry Stud & shuttled to Victoria's Trevenson Park Stud, before Tasmanian breeder Philip Swinton purchased him to stand at Park Crest. Overall he sired 378 named foals for 57% winners-to-runners in 13 countries (including Australia, US, UK, Hong Kong & Italy) for over $10 million progeny earnings; his Australian stakes-performers include Karla Keys, Grand Parade, Soviet Draw & Tiffany's Best.
