Golden Ace Wins Malaysia Gr1 Tunku Gold Cup

Tuesday, 20th February 2007

In Malaysia yesterday, former Woodlands Stud shuttler Desert Prince (Green Desert-Flying Fairy, by Bustino) added a Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred 6YO gelding Golden Ace (Desert Prince-Soyinca, by Caerleon) followed-up November's victory in the Gr1 Coronation Cup (1600m on turf) at Perak, with victory in the RM500,000 (A$200,000) weight-for-age Gr1 Tunku Gold Cup (1200m) at Sungei Besi in Kuala Lumpur. Golden Ace (ridden by Benny Woodworth for trainer Prakhash Pereira) defeated top sprinter Triple Happy (who had won 7 of his 10 starts, including September's Sprint Trophy) & Golden Rainbow. Golden Ace (a $60,000 yearling at the 2002 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney & originally named Foreign Footsteps in Australia) won both the 2005 & 2006 Gr1 Coronation Cups; he took his overall record to 8 wins (plus a last start 3rd in the Listed Anniversary Handicap over 1700m at Penang) from 22 starts.
