Miss Andretti Wins Gr1 Australia Stakes

Monday, 19th February 2007

WA-based Wayandah Stud sire Ihtarim (Royal Academy-Welsh Love, by Ela-Mana-Mou) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured 5YO mare Miss Andretti (Ihtiram-Peggie's Bid, by Marooned) notched her 2nd Gr1 victory in a fortnight (& successive wins in the 1st 2 legs of the 2007 Global Sprint Challenge) with a 1.25-lengths margin in the $400,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in Melbourne. At her previous start on February 5, ultra-consistent Miss Andretti returned from a 13-weeks spell to smash the course record in winning the 1st leg of the 7-race 2007 Global Sprint Challenge: the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Coolmore Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley in Melbourne in 57.22sec (the last 600m in 33.95sec). In Saturday's 2nd leg (again ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Lee Freedman) she defeated 5YO entire Any Suggestion (Lion Hunter-Advisable, by Regal Advice) & 4YO mare Rewaaya (Singspiel-Nasmah, by At Talaq) who finished runner-up in this race last year. Overall Miss Andretti (raced by Sean Buckley's Ultra Thoroughbreds & her original West Australian owner-trainer David Mueller) now has 15 wins (also including the Gr1 Manikato Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley in course record time in September, plus the 2006 Gr2 Schillaci Stakes, Gr3 McEwen Stakes & Listed The Straight Six, as well as the 2005 Gr2 Winterbottom Stakes, Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes & Listed Ruabon Stakes) & 5 placings (including the Gr1 Salinger Stakes over 1200m in November & Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m in September, plus the 2005 Listed Crawford Stakes) from 23 starts for $1,507,600 earnings.
