Corruption Inquiry Bans 4 UK Jockeys
In the UK, the Horseracing Regulatory Authority concluded its investigation into jockey corruption by warning-off Robbie Fitzpatrick & Luke Fletcher for 3 years, warning-off Fran Ferris for 2 years & suspending the licence of Robert Winston for 1 year. The absence of Winston (found guilty of passing on information for reward & misleading investigators) "will leave champion trainer Sir Michael Stoute without 1 of his most regular riders," reported racingpost.co.uk. The HRA investigation "centred on 37 races run between 16 June 2003-29 February 2004, together with the associated activities on betting exchanges which centred on Nottinghamshire-based bookmaker Ian Nicholl, who was warned-off indefinitely & is unable to reapply for access to the racecourse for 10 years".
