Monday, 12th February 2007

Front-running Stronach Stables home-bred 4YO mare Sugar Shake (Awesome Again-Skipping Around, by Skip Trial) "doggedly refused to relinquish her lead on the way to a 1.75-lengths victory" in the US$250,000 Gr1 Santa Maria Handicap (8.5 furlongs) for mares 4YO & up at Santa Anita, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Sugar Shake (ridden by David Flores for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated fellow 4YO mare & 2006 Gr1 Kentucky Oaks runner-up Ermine (Exchange Rate-Red Mischief, by Thirty Six Red) & 5YO mare Rahy's Appeal (Rahy-Appealing Kris, by Kris S). Last start Kentucky-bred Sugar Shake won the Gr2 El Encino Stakes at Santa Anita on January 14 & overall now has 5 wins from 11 starts for US$358,256 earnings.
