Apache Cat Wins Meneres BMW Stakes

Monday, 12th February 2007

Ill-fated former Lynden Park shuttle stallion Lion Cavern (Mr Prospector-Secrettame, by Secretariat) added a black-type success when Gr1-winning 4YO gelding Apache Cat (Lion Cavern-Tennessee Blaze, by Whiskey Road) returned from a 13-weeks spell to score a 1.75-lengths victory in the $100,000 Listed Meneres BMW Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield. Top-weighted Apache Cat (ridden by Damien Oliver for trainer Greg Eurell) defeated 7YO gelding Zimstar (Filante-Zimno Fear, by Cool Ted) & 6YO gelding Straight Legs (Mookta-Namaza, by Namnan). Apache Cat now has 7 wins (also including the 2006's Gr1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington, Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill & Gr3 Schweppervescence Cup over 1400m at Caulfield, plus 2005's Gr3 Guineas Prelude & Listed Carmichael Stakes) & 4 placings (including 2006's Gr2 Feehan Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley, Gr2 Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield & Listed Aurie's Star Handicap over 1200m at Flemington) from 18 starts for $1,166,225 earnings.
