Rogerson To Halve Sydney Stable

Tuesday, 6th February 2007

While visiting New Zealand for last week's NZB Karaka Sales series, trans-Tasman trainer Graeme Rogerson revealed he plans to halve the size of his Sydney stable & return to living permanently in New Zealand "later this year". Rogerson, 60, has up to 70 horses in work at Randwick, plus 40 at Flemington in Melbourne (where his major client is millionaire owner Lloyd Williams) & another 100 at Hamilton with co-trainer Stephen Autridge. Rogerson (who opened his Randwick stables in the early 1990s) explained he would now prefer to plot hit-and-run raids on the major Australian carnivals from NZ, a tactic he originally used during the 1980s. He summed up: "It is time I did it. I love the racing in NZ & I've got to slow down a bit."
