US trainer Jeff Mullins notched his 1,000th career winner when A Shore Thing scored by 3-lengths at Santa Anita Park in California, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Mullins began his training career at age 17 when he took a string of horses to Les Bois Park in Idaho & conditioned them under his father's name for several years; his success as a trainer began at Turf Paradise in Arizona prior to his move to California. Overall Mullins's runners have earned US$26,748,907 & won 73 stakes (including Gr1 Santa Anita Derby winners Buddy Gil in 2003, Castledale in 2004 & Buzzards Bay in 2005).
