Benedetti Heading To Dubai

Tuesday, 30th January 2007

Victorian trainer Tony Noonan confirmed 5YO gelding Benedetti (Second Empire-Seattle Gem, by Khozaam) will head to Dubai & "be placed in a few races worth up to $220,000" in the lead-up to March's International World Cup carnival. Benedetti (ridden by Nash Rawiller) won the weekend's Comedy King Handicap (1600m) at Sandown in Melbourne to take his record to 5 wins & 4 placings from 18 starts for $254,930 prize-money & Noonan told Virtual Form Guide: "We'll sit down tonight & talk about it, but basically yes he'll be going. He's always been a horse who's shown lots of promise. He really needed to win (at Sandown): to help his rating & show he was racing well enough to warrant the trip. I didn't want him going over to just make up the numbers." The Dubai races picked out by Noonan will be run in February & carry a minimum purse of US$120,000 (A$155,400). He summed up: "There's some good money on offer. Otherwise he could have stayed for a $70,000 race & then head to the Mornington Cup.But these distances (around 1600m) really suit him. I've never pushed him past 1600m. Early on I thought he'd easily get 2000m, but this is about it now".
