US Gr1 Star Angara Retired & Booked To Montjeu
The Sangster family's Swettenham Stud "has retired multiple US Gr1-winning 6YO mare Angara (Alzao-Ange Blue, by Alleged) & shipped her to Ireland to be bred" to Dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Angara won the 2005 Gr1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park & 2006 Gr1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga; she finished 8th in Canada's Gr1 E.P.Taylor Stakes at Woodbine on October 22 in her final start. Swettenham purchased Angara privately from Martin Schwartz after she failed to meet her reserve on a US$2.2 million final bid in the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Mixed Sale. Overall Angara won 6 of 21 starts & earned US$1,101,700.
