Kentucky Day-4: US$1.5m Downthedustyroad

Monday, 15th January 2007

In the US, Tim McMurry's Fleetwood Bloodstock (buying for an undisclosed client) paid the Day-4 top price of US$1.5 million for last month's Gr1-winning Arkansas-bred 4YO mare Downthedustyroad (Storm And A Half-Fair Majesty, by Crafty Prospector) at the 8-day Keeneland January Horses-Of-All-Ages Sale in Lexington. Downthedustyroad (consigned by Eaton Sales as agent for owner Ahmed Zayat) was unraced as a 2YO; last year as a 3YO she notched 4 wins (including the Gr1 La Brea Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita on December 30) plus 5 stakes-placings (including the Gr2 Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup Handicap & Gr2 Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks) from 10 starts. Her unraced dam Fair Majesty has produced 6 foals to race for 5 winners (also including 14-time winner Princess Jen).
