Monday, 8th January 2007

In Hong Kong, Coolmore shuttler Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr Prospector-Angel Fever, by Danzig) added a group success when Australian-bred 4YO Floral Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus-Crown Crest, by Mill Reef) grabbed victory by a nose in the HK$2.3 million (A$380,000) Gr3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin. Floral Pegasus (ridden by Gerald Mosse for trainer Tony Cruz) defeated front-running fellow Australian-bred Down Town (Scenic-Twain, by Kenvain) & Tiber (Titus Livius-Exciting, by Mill Reef); favoured Australian-bred 7YO gelding & former champion sprinter Silent Witness (a stable-mate of the winner) finished 7th in the field of 14. Floral Pegasus (a $500,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) was HK's Champion Griffin for the 2005-06 season; he set a Happy Valley 1650m track record (1min 38.7sec) last September & finished 3rd in the Gr2 HK International Mile Trial (1600m) at Sha Tin in November. Overall he now boasts 7 wins & 5 placings from 14 starts for HK$5.5 million (A$920,000) prize-money.
