Excelsior Recommended For NY Franchise
In the US, New York's Ad-Hoc Committee On Racing has "recommended Excelsior Racing Associates assume control in 2008 of the franchise currently operated by the New York Racing Association" (to operate Aqueduct, Belmont Park & Saratoga) reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Empire Racing Associates & NYRA (whose current franchise expires 31 December 2007) were the other parties who submitted bids. New York Yankees general partner Steve Swindal & casino-hotel developer Richard Fields head Excelsior "which narrowly edged Empire Racing for the recommendation in the weighted scoring system; NYRA finished a distant third". The 9-member panel "will file a report to the governor's officer & state legislature within the next week or so; the big question is whether state lawmakers including Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer will accept the group's recommendation or entertain additional proposals."
