Dorabella Wins Gr1 NZ 1000 Guineas

Monday, 13th November 2006

In New Zealand, Stoney Bridge sire Postponed (Summer Squall-Bridal Tea, by Gulch) recorded his 1st Gr1 triumph when daughter Dorabella (Postponed-Caserio, by Kaapstad) grabbed victory by a half-neck in the NZ$275,000 Gr1 NZB 1000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies at Riccarton Park. Dorabella (ridden by Jamie Bullard for trainers Howie & Lorraine Mathews) defeated Princess Coup (Encosta De Lago-Stoneyfell Road, by Sovereign Red) & Velvet And Satin (Carnegie-Romanee Conti, by Sir Tristram). Dorabella now has 3 wins (also including September's Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes over 1200m at Riccarton) & 2 placings from 5 starts; she is a half-sister to Crusoe (Volksraad-Caserio) who ran 3rd in last season's Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas & is now a winner in Singapore. Meanwhile her sire Postponed was runner-up 1st-Season sire in NZ last year.
