US Galloper Scratched For Positive Drug Test
In a dramatic announcement prior to the Cox Plate, imported US 8YO galloper Honor In War (Lord At War-Catumbella, by Diesis) was scratched after testing positive to a banned steroid, reportedly administered in North America 2 months ago. Racing Victoria chief steward Des Gleeson noted the substance was a legitimate treatment in the US, but was not acceptable under Australian rules. Honor In War (who had joined the Melbourne stables of trainer Danny O'Brien) has 10 wins & 12 placings from 36 US starts; he last raced on September 9 when 4th in the Gr3 Turfway Park Championship Stakes.
