Thursday, 26th October 2006

Andrew Stringer out-bid Havana Horse's Andy Smith & also paid 440,000 guineas (A$1.144m) for 3YO Sadler's Wells colt Tusculum (out of Listed-placed Trempolino mare Turbaine) consigned from Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle Stables in Ireland & carrying a Timeform rating of 115+. Tusculum recorded his 2nd win in Ireland's Listed Ballycullen Stakes at the Curragh before finishing a close-up 5th in the UK Gr1 St Leger. His dam Turbaine (who has also produced Gr3 winners Tertullian & Terek) is a half-sister to French Gr1 Arc de Triomphe winner Urban Sea (dam of Gr1 Derby winner Galileo). Stringer told racingpost.co.uk: "He's been bought for a client in Europe, but I can't say anything more."
