Thursday, 19th October 2006

In Canada, 11-year-old US Gr2-winning sire Mazel Trick (Phone Trick-Mazatleca, by Ramahorn) has moved from Regal Heir Farms (whose owners died in a helicopter crash in April) in the US state of Pennsylvania to Canmor Farms in British Columbia for the 2007 breeding season, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Mazel Trick (whose dam is a Gr3-winner) is a half-brother to Wild Escapade (winner of the 1994 US Gr1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga). On the track himself, Mazel Trick (who ran his initial 5 races in France) won 6 of 10 starts (including 4 from 5 in the US) for US$435,640 earnings; his highlights included victories in the US Gr2 Triple Bend Breeders' Cup Invitational Handicap (6 furlongs in a track record 1min 7.55sec at Del Mar), Gr3 Lazaro Barrera Handicap (7 furlongs in a track record 1min 19.97sec at Hollywood Park) & Gr3 San Diego Handicap. Mazel Trick has subsequently sired 118 winners (5 stakes-winners) from 288 foals of racing age for US$6,429,879 earnings; his starts include multiple stakes-winner Outcashem (18 wins from 31 starts for US$489,557) & Major Success (winner of the 2006 US Gr2 Palos Verde Handicap at Santa Anita).
