Teofilo Wins UK Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes

Monday, 16th October 2006

Coolmore shuttler Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a UK juvenile Gr1 triumph when unbeaten boom colt Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) snatched victory by a head in the £250,000 (A$600,000) Darley Dewhurst Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Newmarket. In a repeat of the quinella in last month's Gr1 Irish National Stakes (7 furlongs at The Curragh), Teofilo (ridden by Kevin Manning for trainer Jim Bolger) again defeated Susan Magnier's dual Gr1-winning fellow colt Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill-L'on Vite, by Secretariat) with dual Gr2-winner Strategic Prince (Dansili-Ausherra, by Diesis) a further 2.5-lengths back in 3rd place. Earlier this season Teofilo (named after Cuba's famous triple Olympic gold medal-winning heavy-weight boxer Teofilo Stevenson) won Ireland's Gr2 Futurity Stakes (7 furlongs) at The Curragh & Listed Tyros Stakes (7 furlongs) at Leopardstown; overall he now boasts 5 wins from 5 starts.
