UK Tatts Yearlings Day-2: $1.56m Montjeu Colt
Irish veterinarian Demi O'Byrne (bidding on behalf of Coolmore trio of John Magnier, Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith) out-bid Newmarket trainer Sir Michael Stoute & bloodstock agent Amanda Skiffington (sitting with Persimmon Homes founder Duncan Davidson & trainer James Fanshawe) to pay 600,000 guineas (A$1.56m) for a Montjeu colt (out of Kingmambo mare Model Queen). The colt (consigned by John & Lady Carolyn Warren's Highclere Stud) is from the family of Zafonic, Elmaamul & Reams Of Verse. O'Byrne told racingpost.co.uk: "He's very like the stallion & it's a nice pedigree. He's for the usual team, but we'll decide later on where he'll be trained. I'd imagine he'll come into his own as a 3YO & if he's anything like his sire I'll be very happy."
