Jockey Insurance Costs Threaten Montana Tracks

In the US, "the blow of skyrocketing jockey insurance costs has left Montana tracks pondering whether to close their doors forever," reported bloodhorse.com. While racing facilities in Miles City, Billings & Great Falls "have committed to race for at least 1 more year," those in Missoula & Kalispell "are on the fence as to whether they'll be able to foot the bill". The 5 tracks are scheduled to race from May 14-September 24. In February, Mather & Co (a national firm that insures all 5 Montana tracks) announced insurance rates have risen by about 100%.
