Falkirk Wins Hoysted Handicap

Monday, 20th March 2006

Coolmore shuttler Tale Of The Cat (Storm Cat-Yarn, by Mr Prospector) added a black-type success when 5YO entire Falkirk (Tale Of The Cat-Madam Valeta, by Palace Music) notched a half-head win in the $100,000 Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1100m) for 4YOs & up, down the straight sprint track at Flemington. Falkirk (ridden by Noel Callow for trainer Lee Freedman) defeated 5YO gelding Message Bank (All Chatter-Zonki, by Zephyr Zip) & 5YO mare Dea (West Point-Sonsie Mary, by Sovereign Red). Falkirk (passed-in for NZ$97,500 as a yearling at the 2002 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 8 wins (5 stakes victories, including the 2004 Gr2 QTC Cup in Brisbane & Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes in Sydney) & 4 runner-ups in 19 starts for $642,306 earnings; the 1min 2.57sec winning time in the Hoysted Handicap was just outside the course record (1min 2.2sec) with the final 600m in 33.21sec. Falkirk is likely to stand at owner Nelson Schick's Windsor Park Stud in NZ when his racing career is over.
