McCrann Slams Tabcorp 'Leadership Malaise'

Friday, 10th March 2006

Meanwhile News Limited's national business commentator Terry McCrann has followed up with a 2nd newspaper column this week attacking Tabcorp & its chief executive Matthew Slatter over their intransigence in the racing industry's TV War stalemate. McCrann declared bluntly: "This is really only the surface manifestation of a much deeper & broader malaise in Tabcorp: sourced to the office of the CEO Matthew Slatter & an utter failure of leadership. . . . . He should have sat down with the clubs at least 2 years ago & said how do we make a separate premium channel work: to have proactively initiated it, in Tabcorp's own best self-interest." Instead McCrann mocks Tabcorp's blinkered approach thus: "Tabcorp just wants to shovel as many 'betting opportunities' at punters (on the 1 screen) as it can fit in over the course of a day. It'd be delighted to fill any 'down time' by quite literally betting on flies climbing up the wall. If the massed might of its brains trust could work out how to keep their tiny feet fixed to the wall, the painting of numbers on their back would be a cinch."
