Fields Of Omagh Heads To Dubai

Tuesday, 7th March 2006

Following his weekend victory in course record time in the Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield (1st leg of this year's Asian Mile Challenge), ever-green 8YO gelding & former Gr1 Cox Plate winner Fields Of Omagh (Rubiton-Finneto, by Cerreto) "is to be given the chance to take on the world in Dubai later this month," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Fields Of Omagh (who won Australia's unofficial weight-for-age championship Gr1 Cox Plate over 2040m at Moonee Valley in 2003 & finished 2nd in 2004 & 3rd behind Makybe Diva in 2005) "was inoculated yesterday for the Dubai trip, during which he will contest the US$5 million Dubai Duty Free (1777m on turf & 2nd leg of the 2006 Asian Mile Challenge) at the world cup meeting on March 25". Trainer David Hayes confirmed Fields Of Omagh will "travel to Dubai on either March 14 or 17 with stable representative Tony McEvoy". (Last year the Tony Vasil-trained Elvstroem won the Dubai Duty Free & Sunline ran 3rd in 2001.) To date, Fields Of Omagh (passed-in for just $45,000 as a yearling at the 1999 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale) boasts 12 wins & 15 placings in 40 starts for $4,610,740 earnings. (March 6)
